Sikkim trip packing list
Sikkim combines warm valleys, cold passes and heavy monsoon rain, often on the same trip.
Layers
Gangtok can be mild while high passes in North Sikkim are below freezing. Pack layers rather than one heavy jacket.
Rain
The monsoon, roughly June to September, brings heavy rain and landslides. Keep clothes and electronics in waterproof bags and allow spare days for road closures.
Permits
Some areas, such as North Sikkim, need a permit that is usually arranged through a registered tour operator. Rules differ for Indian and foreign visitors, so check current requirements before you travel.
Long drives
Shared jeeps and long mountain drives are the norm. A power bank and organized bags make them easier.
